RICTA – This Year

“This Year” is the first single taken from Ricta’s long-awaited début album ‘Snacks & Deception’ which is out 26th May 2012 on Beat Back Records.

Getting his first taste of hip hop coming up as a DJ / Graffiti writer in the Stalingrad twinned Coventry City, UK. Ricta studied the local scene intently, his focus turned from DJ’ing to Rapping at around 16 years of age, since then he has been hard at work both on the live circuit and in the studio.

Bringing an array of both self and guest-produced tracks Ricta is set to prove that boom bap beats are here to stay, combined with his distinctive voice, intelligent lyrics and a vibe reminiscent to that of rap’s golden era a winning formula is undeniably here, forget gangsterism’s and forced punch lines this is straight up, no gimmicks Hip Hop.

Ricta also boasts a capturing live show and is often joined on stage by fellow label mate and rapper Idyllic, over recent years they have worked along the likes of… KRS-ONE, Akala, Kano, Ugly Duckling, Tinie Tempah, Plan B, Blackalicious, Wiley, Jaguar Skills, Rodney P & Skitz, Example & Many More as well as performing at many of the UK’s top music festivals.

In 2009 he launched his own independent record label ‘BeatBack Records’ and secured sponsorship with the Midlands based music, arts and clothing collective ‘SIKA Studios’. In April of 2010 Ricta released his first single ‘Rock Caps’ which was extremely well received and was consequently licensed for use on the BBC Television Programme ‘No Hats No Trainers’, as well as receiving radio air-play. Followed by the release of the Expocate EP in July of the same year which features US rapper Rebel UN and Czech producer Drepo plans are already in motion for the next project which will include further international collaborations, this is only the beginning yet already Ricta has carved his own niche right into the side of the UK music.
