There is no question, that reggae dancehall music is the most dominant genre of music in Jamaica, but when it comes to the world, it’s Hip Hop. Look around you on an everyday life basis, there is a hip hop influence somewhere, from clothes to billboards, from shop signs to even public transport – the buses lower themselves to let pensioners on and then lifts itself up like lo-rider cars making that same sound.
Enter Nomad Carlos and his tag team partner Five Steez. Carlos was born in Miami but raised in Kingston Jamaica from the age of 5. He and Five Steez are Jamaica’s ‘Mobb Deep’, Jamaica’s ‘M.O.P.’, Jamaica’s ‘Ghost & Rae’, Jamaica’s ‘EPMD’, I could go on and on. They have been flying the hip hop flag in Jamaica for some time now, and on this new single ‘Aww Snap!’ The two emcees go line for line over a frantic beat that will make you go AWW SNAP!!!! “Me and Steez been collabing for years now,” explains Carlos. “I wanted to do some back and forth spitting with him for my mixtape, so he came through, heard the beat, and we just formulated it from there.”
