One may think, if this site is about real Hip Hop, why is a soul/R&B artist featured here? Well actually, it is not that hard to figure out. Let us remind ourselves that Hip Hop & Soul/R&B are brother and sister. Consider this artist a combination of both: Hip Hop/Soul, just like the path Mary J. Blige took.
Hip Hop heads will recognize this name: Mela Machinko. A sultry soul singer who has worked with established and respected artists such as Talib Kweli (Beautiful), Jean Grae (The Bridge), Pharoahe Monch – (pictured below) (Bar Tap, Shine) and Most notably 9th Wonder & Median (Now I’m Being Cool). Now the time has come for Mela to break out on her own and help restore that true soul sound and bring it back to the forefront for the 2013.
Mela’s new single ‘What You Want Me To Do (I’m Sorry)’ shows the singer on her creative juice, usind Hip Hop Icon Jay-Z’s lyrics from his extensive catalogue of hits and putting them together to tell her stories. This also reflects how we use lyrics and apply them in everyday life.
